Research Institutions and Information Sources

Following the events of 11 September 2001 a number of researchers and research institutes renewed their interest in Afghanistan or expanded the scope of their activity to include peacebuilding issues. Of these the Afghan Research and Evaluation Unit (AREU) is the only Afghan based one, though others have researchers on more permanent assignments in Afghanistan, as the Centre on International Collaboration and the International Crisis Group. While a number of regionally based research institutes address Afghan and regional issues, few of these make their publications available on the internet.

A number of NGOs either produce their own reports on peacebuilding issues or collaborate with research institutions, where CARE International has been particularly active.
