Hannes Hechler holds a Masters Degree in Anthropology, Political Science and International Law. He studied at the University of Mainz, Germany and the Université de Montpellier, France with a focus on West Africa and Development Cooperation, particularly on the cultural aspects of corruption. During the last years Hannes Hechler has worked for the German donor agency "Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Technische Zusammenarbeit" (GTZ) focusing on supporting partner countries in implementing the "UN Convention against Corruption" (UNCAC). During this time he participated in several fact-finding and evaluation missions and contributed to donor coordination in the area of anti-corruption as part of the "OECD Development Assistance Committee" (DAC).

Currently he is as Programme Coordinator at the U4 Anti-Corruption Resource Centre based at the Chr. Michelsen Institute in Bergen, Norway. He is responsible for the thematic areas of the "United Nations Convention against Corruption", as well as "Anti-Corruption Agencies". As part of his assignment he also conducts U4 anti-corruption training courses for donor agency staff.
