Hilde Kjøstvedt holds a Cand. Mag. (Bachelor's Degree) in Arabic and a Master's Degree in Social Anthropology, both from the University of Bergen. Her Master thesis; "'Her voice, Palestinian' - a study of women's rights conceptions among ordinary Palestinian women on the occupied West Bank" is based on field work conducted in the occupied Palestinian territories in the spring of 2004. Her research interests center on gender issues, especially as they manifest in conflict situations. Recently she has focused on women's roles in peacebuilding and democratisation, both as participants in political parties and in civil society organisations.
