Economist with extensive experience from research, research management, and policy analysis. Head of CMIs research programme on Global Health and Development. Current research interests include 1) health systems and health policy, with a particular emphasis on human resources for health, 2) governance in the health sector, 3) health and economic development, 4) economics and ethics of priority setting in health. He has also worked extensively on climate policy and energy issues, as well as international trade and development. Mæstad has been the leader of a number of research projects for clients such as the OECD, Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NORAD, the World Bank, STATOIL, the Norwegian Shipowners Association, and the Research Council of Norway.
