Sudan After Bashir

President Bashir came to power through a coup in 1989, and has since ruled Sudan with an iron fist.

In December 2018, protests against the president began in several towns, sparked after an increase in bread prices, growing into nationwide rallies demanding that Bashir step down.

During the days leading up to Bashir’s removal, tens of thousands of peaceful protesters surrounded the army headquarters in Khartoum for days on end.

On April 11, 2019, he was removed from office by military and detained.

In this lecture we will try to understand what caused Bashir to fall, and ask who will replace him, now that his reign is over.
