Norske bedrifters tiltak i utviklingsland innen området samfunnsansvar er lite relevante i forhold til hovedproblemene landene står overfor. Som utviklingstiltak er tiltakene lite effektive. I dag er det stort sett frivillig for bedrifter om de vil være etiske eller ikke. "Vi trenger en offentlig politikk som gjør det kostbart å drive uetisk," sier Ivar Kolstad, seniorforsker på CMI som har ledet en studie av norske bedrifters CSR aktiviteter i utviklingsland.
