This is a review of the academic literature about incentives for violent and non-violent behaviour in transitions from civil war. It takes stock of current knowledge on how different types of incentives affect violence patterns in such transitions, and examines the incentive concept and the extent to which it applies in conditions of widespread violence and across contexts. The review is part of the project leader's PhD project Economic and judicial incentives for peace consolidation.
