Political scientist focusing on political Islam, democratisation and demographics in the Middle East, political violence, and social movement and political party theories.
Løvlie holds a master degree in Comparative Politics from the University of Bergen, with studies in Islam and the Middle East, Political Economy and International Relations from the University of York, and studies in Chinese Politics from Fudan University. He is currently pursuing a PhD on the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, focusing on their institutionalisation as a political party and potential role in the further democratisation of Palestine. The PhD is part of a larger research project at CMI, funded by NFR and led by Dr Are Knudsen.
