Liv Tønnessen is a PhD candidate in comparative politics.  The PhD will examine Muslim women's activism for and against the Islamic state in Sudan since the Islamist coup d'etat in 1989. The PhD centeres around the question:  how to be a woman activist under authoritarian Islamist rule?
