Madhab Bhusal passed away in the second Nepali earthquake on May 12, 2015

Madhab Bhusal was on the way back to Kathmandu from Dolakha with his earthquake relief team when he was hit by a landslide during the second major earthquake in two weeks in Nepal.

Madhab Bhusal was a student at CMI in 2006-07, and we remember him as a very dedicated student, and a community leader among Nepali students in Bergen. He was deeply involved in our research on poverty in Nepal, and wrote a master thesis at the University of Bergen geography department on the incomes of the poorest among the poor in Nepal, the landless unskilled laborers in his home-district Kailali in the plains of Nepal. He was also interested in issues related to disaster management, which explains his active participation in the relief work after the earthquake in Nepal. Our thoughts are with his family and friends, and his colleagues in Bergen and at Tribhuvan University where he has been teaching since his return to Nepal.
