Eirik Gaard Kristiansen appointed new Chair of the CMF Board
Eirik Gaard Kristiansen from NHH Norwegian School of Economics has been appointed the new Chair of the Board of the Chr. Michelsen Fund (CMF). He will also join the CMI Board as an external member and Vice Chair.
Kristiansen is Professor of Economics at NHH, where he earned his PhD and has served as professor since 2007. His research spans corporate governance, innovation, contract theory, industrial organization, and environmental economics, with a particular focus on how institutions and public policy shape market outcomes.
“CMI has an excellent reputation for producing relevant research and policy advice that addresses global challenges. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to contribute as a board member,” says Eirik Gaard Kristiansen.
He has served as Head of Research at the Central Bank of Norway and has held a long-standing board membership at Enova, a public enterprise focused on accelerating Norway’s transition in energy consumption and production.
Kristiansen’s combination of research excellence, public sector leadership, and extensive board experience demonstrates strong business acumen, strategic insight, and governance capability, qualities well aligned with CMI’s mission and institutional development.
“We are very pleased to welcome Eirik Gaard Kristiansen to CMF and to the CMI Board, and look forward to collaborate with him to further strengthen CMI,” says Espen Villanger, Director of CMI.
Kristiansen succeeds Alexander Cappelen on 1 April, when Cappelen’s second term as Chair of the CMF Board lapses.
