On the Passing of His Majesty King Harald V

Statement from Espen Villanger, Director of the Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI).

“We are deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Harald V.

For more than three decades, King Harald was a steady, inclusive and unifying figure in Norwegian society. Through times of change and uncertainty, he helped foster a sense of community and belonging, always emphasising the values of openness, respect and mutual understanding.

His recognition of Norway as a diverse society resonated with many and will remain an important part of his legacy.

We remember him with great respect and gratitude.

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go to Queen Sonja, the Royal Family, and all those mourning his passing.”
