Richard Takhun

Post Doctoral Researcher

Political scientist and political anthropologist specialising in Southeast Asian politics.

Dr. Richard Takhun is a political scientist and political anthropologist specialising in Southeast Asian politics, with a particular focus on Myanmar. His research examines authoritarian governance, armed conflict, political economy and forced mobility. He is especially interested in how military rule and civil war reshape societies, economies and the lives of ordinary people.

He earned his PhD in Political Science and Political Anthropology at the University of Bonn's Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies. There he also taught comparative politics and political economy. His work combines ethnographic fieldwork, including research in Myanmar's conflict zones, with comparative and empirical analysis. That combination lets him connect lived experience to wider structural questions.

His work appears in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes. He is currently pursuing postdoctoral research.
