mobilities : immobilities
It is a truism that refugee research is either lacking theory or lacking theoretical sophistication and in many cases has become overtly legalistic or mechanical. In recent years, the main theory development has moved from the traditional “refugee studies” to the broader category “forced migration studies”, a shift that some deplore and others see as invigorating the discipline. This workshop examines contemporary forced displacement theory and practice along three dimensions: 1) “dis-placement”, 2) “en-campment” and 3) “re-return”.
The workshop is by invitation only.
