Only 800 days remain to achieve the Millennium Development Goals. The overarching goals of fighting poverty and eradicating hunger have framed many of the inputs into the post-2015 process, but governance has yet to be included in the global framework, despite recommendations from the Secretary General and the High level panel report. At the same time, society’s capacity to define, establish and implement policies and resolve their conflicts peacefully in an existing legal order seems an obvious condition for achieving meaningful sustainable development.

In this presentation, Heba El-Kholy will outline the on-going process and discussion around the post-2015 development agenda and the very different approach taken when compared to the MDG process. She will also look more specifically at the role and the place of governance in the process.

Heba El-Kholy is Director of UNDP's Oslo Governance Centre.
