Policing Against Sexual Violence in Haiti
Bergen Resource Centre for International Development, Jekteviksbakken 31
Jon Christian Møller, the Police Directorate’s section for international police cooperation, and Lisa-Marie Måseidvåg Selvik, CMI, in conversation with Åse Gilje Østensen (CMI).
Norway has contributed to improving women's rights in Haiti for many years, with special focus on combatting sexual and gender based violence (SGBV). In line with the UN Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security, a Norwegian police team is working within the peace operation MINUSTAH. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the Norwegian government deployed – for the first time – a specialized police team, specialized on SGBV issues. This team has for six years contributed to capacity building in the Haitian National Police in relation to SGBV crimes.
Join us to learn more about Haiti, the Norwegian Police’s international contributions, and the issue of sexual and gender based violence (SGBV).
Coffee and pastry will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
