How is it to be a woman judge? What are the incentives and obstacles that women face on the road to judgeship in different societies?  And does it make a difference – to the operation of the court, its legitimacy or its judgments – whether there are women judges on a court – and how many they are?

In this session Ruth Rubio Marin (University of Sevilla and European University Institute) will interview two women who have made it to the bench in different countries about their experiences:  Hanne Sofie Greve (Justice of the High Court in Bergen and previously a judge of the European Court of Human Rights) and Lydia Mugambe (Justice of the High Court of Uganda, who previously worked as legal officer and council with the UN International Tribunal for Rwanda). This is part of the project “Women on the Bench”.
