Does the Chinese engagement in Africa differ from the Western engagement? What are the implications for African development? These are some of the questions that will be addressed in the seminar.

The main speaker is Dr Garth le Pere, Director of the Institute for Global Dialogue, South Africa. He is the author and editor of several recent and forthcoming books examining the new relations between China and Africa.

Le Pere is also participating in a CMI-study exploring the implications of China's Africa policy for Norwegian policies in relation to Africa and China. The study is commissioned by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project leader, Elling N. Tjønneland, senior researcher at CMI, will give a brief presentation of the study.
