Both advocates for sexual and reproductive rights and groups aiming to limit them have mobilized across Latin America. Last year, Argentina's Supreme Court decriminalize abortion in cases of rape. This decision has not been without controversies.

Mexico Federal District legalized abortion in 2007. The National Human Rights Commission immediately appealed to the Supreme Court, arguing that the law was unconstitutional. Although the Supreme Court rejected the appeal, 18 out of Mexico's 32 states quickly passed laws banning or restricting access to abortion.
