How politics interfere with nutritional programs

Open lecture with Nils Arne Kastberg, Former UNICEF representative in Sudan and Regional Director in Latin America.


Mr. Kastberg’s last position before joining PHAP was with the UN as UNICEF’s Representative in Sudan from September 2009 to January 2012. Prior to this assignment, he served as UNICEF’s Regional Director for the Latin America and Caribbean regions from 2003. Mr. Kastberg first joined UNICEF in April 1998 as Director of the Office of Emergency Programs (EMOPS) in New York. Prior to his appointment with UNICEF, he held a series of senior-level positions with the Swedish government during the period 1992 to 1998, including Counselor with the Permanent Mission of Sweden in Geneva, Switzerland; Permanent Representative of Sweden to the UN Organizations in Rome; and expert seconded to the Office of the High Representative for International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he covered humanitarian and human rights issues in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He began his career with UNHCR, holding a series of increasingly responsible positions in a variety of countries from 1980 to 1988, including Zimbabwe, Sudan, Thailand, Switzerland, and Costa Rica.
