Associate Professor Michael Humphrey is Head of the School of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of New South Wales in Sydney.  He has a PhD in anthropology from Macquarie University and has undertaken anthropological field research in the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and Australia. 

His latest book, "The Politics of Atrocity and Reconciliation: from terror to trauma", Routledge (2002) focuses on the individual and social impact of political violence and atrocity. It is about producing victims and redeeming victims.

He is currenly a visiting fellow at the University of Bergen.
