The Bergen Seminar 2000. After war: democracy and reconciliation in divided societies - lessons from the first phase

The seminar examined the short-term and long-term effects on reconciliation and democratication of policy measures that typically follow cessation of armed conflict. Such measures include international mediation to keep former warring parties involved in a process of reconciliation and democratisation, implementation of multi-party elections, various transitional justice arrangements and dialogue groups as well as post-crisis humanitarian operations and reconstruction assistance.
