The U4 thematic discussion convened about 27 participants over two days at the UN Office in Hanoi. The participants represented a diverse mix of institutions from across Viet Nam’s anti-corruption and gender governance landscape. Government agencies were represented by bodies such as the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Government Inspectorate, and the National Assembly. The United Nations system was well represented, including staff from UNDP Viet Nam, UN Women and other UN entities. Development partners and diplomatic missions also took part, notably from the Delegation of the European Union to Viet Nam, the Royal Norwegian Embassy, and the Embassy of Spain. Academia and research institutions contributed perspectives from several universities and institutes such as the Hanoi Law University and the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics. Social organisations such as the Women’s Union were also represented.
The thematic discussion aimed to provide tools and knowledge to strengthen the integration of gender perspectives into the implementation of Viet Nam’s national anti-corruption strategy, to ensure that efforts to prevent corruption were both more inclusive and more effective.
Specifically, it was aimed at:
- Sharing initial findings from a background study on gender and corruption in the Viet Nam health sector;
Creating space for dialogue on gendered experiences and impacts of corruption; and
Co-developing actionable policy recommendations for addressing gendered corruption risks.
