In 2021 the Indonesian government terminated the REDD+ anti-deforestation deal with Norway. A new agreement between the two countries was unveiled in the lead-up to COP27 but it is lower in ambition and lacks clear financing commitments. What lessons can we learn from the REDD+ agreement?
