Despite heavy rain in Bergen early in the morning, the breakfast seminar on climate change adaptation and migration in the Global South was well attended, with more than 20 attending in person and a further 24 joining online.
The seminar brought together different perspectives on how climate change, adaptation and migration intersect. Jon Einar Flåtnes (CMI) introduced key questions and insights on climate adaptation, especially among small-scale farmers; Ninna Nyberg Sørensen (DIIS) discussed migration as a form of adaptation and the governance of climate-related mobility; Andreas Forø Tollefsen (University of Oslo) presented approaches to measuring spatial opportunities and how spatial analysis can contribute to understanding migration and adaptation; and Christian Neumann (Strømme Foundation/Fattigdomsbekjemper) offered a practitioner perspective on climate adaptation, livelihoods and mobility.
The seminar was organised as part of CLIMIG and the launch of the new ADAPT – Sustainable land use through migration: a pathway for climate change adaptation project.
