Conditions for stability and sustainable returns in post-conflict Syria (StaR)
The StaR research project traces and analyses the stability-return nexus through policies, laws and practices on three levels. First, it examines how external actors, including neighbouring countries and the European Union, shape the parameters for state-building and stability through their political, military and diplomatic interventions in Syria as well as their refugee policies.
Second, at the national level, the project will examine how the Syrian government consolidates power, and how they formulate return and reintegration policies, including the restitution of land, property and housing.
Third, in four diverse communities the project ethnographically explores how return and reintegration is experienced across ideological, ethnic and political lines through the lens of local and digital justice practices.
