Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the service industries has increased substantially in recent decades. For developing countries, service industry FDI can intensify domestic competition, or provide access to services domestic producers do not supply. An important question is therefore how developing countries can attract more foreign investment in these sectors. This study uses industry-level data on FDI inflows to developing countries, to determine the main host country determinants of FDI in the major service industries.
