Current projects

Economist focusing on social policy implementation and women's career choices.

Viola is a development economist with most of her research centering around questions in public economics, labor economics, and health economics with a particular interest in local governance, public service delivery, and women's career choices. Viola uses experimental and quasi-experimental methods in combination with behavioral measures and often works in collaboration with NGOs and government partners.

Viola contributes to the work at the Development Learning Lab (DLL), is a principal investigator (PI) at the Inclusion Economics India Centre (formerly Evidence for Policy Design India) and was a PI at the Excellence Cluster "The Politics of Inequality" at the University of Konstanz (2021-2025) responsible for two large-scale projects on career guidance in India and the targeting of social pensions in Bangladesh.

Viola completed her PhD in the research group on Political Economy and Development at the University of Zurich in 2019 and worked as a Research Associate for the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) before her PhD.
