Angola’s capital Luanda is a city of stark inequalities and contrasts. While it offers opportunities and wealth for the few, people in the informal musseques are effectively trapped in poverty through limited income opportunities and material deficiencies; disempowerment in relation to institutions of the state and society; and vulnerability to adverse shocks such as sudden loss of emloyment, disease and crime.

This report is part of the ongoing research programme “Cooperation on Research and Development in Angola” between Centro de Estudos e Investigação Científica (CEIC) at the Catholic University of Luanda, Angola and Chr. Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen.
