The presentation reviews the research evidence on social norm interventions and their effects on women's economic empowerment. It explains what social norms are, how they are measured, and why they matter for women's access to work, resources, and decision-making power. The presentation surveys interventions across three categories: direct norm change (misperception correction, edutainment, school curriculum, and couples' dialogue), multi-component programs (empowerment clubs, targeted training with peer support, and livelihoods with gender-transformative components), and norm-sensitive design (women-owned accounts, safe mobility, and flexible jobs). It concludes with practical implications for programmers and policymakers, emphasizing that diagnosing the right type of norm barrier is essential before choosing an intervention.
